Who Owns a Twitter Account?

Twitter is a very useful tool nowadays and it's gaining huge usage, as it allows people to choose profiles to “follow” and get updated of everything posted on those same profiles. This way, its utility traduces in following real time information, making it different and creating more value to other social networks, such as Facebook or Orkut, which major utility is to interact with friends.

Usually Twitter can be created by single individuals, companies or even by media (single journalists, press, etc.), and it can have several types of uses, according to what the user wants it for. In fact, these types of users can be divided within "meformers" (accounting nearly 80%) or "informers" (the rest 20%).The first group includes mainly single individuals who main purpose is to post things related to their social lives, feelings, emotions, or immediate location and activity; on the opposite, "informers" include companies or media agents, and usually these users differentiate themselves from the others in the sense that they have a larger social network and are more interactive.
Regarding the use itself, the first group creates an account in this platform just to express themselves, to feel good. "Informers", on the other hand include a more complex type of use: as it includes mostly companies, it is sometimes hard to understand or define under to which extent the Tweets belong to the single employee who writes them or to the company for which the employee works for.

Some cases:
1. An employee may use a Twitter account to show the job he’s been doing for a company, and in this case the Tweets belong to the employee himself;
2. The employee can also make Tweets in his name but under his company guide, so in this case the Tweets belong to the company and the employee has to follow the company’s rules and guidelines.

So, for an employee it is very useful to use Twitter as he can share his work and gather a group of followers that will be aware of his job for a certain company. In this sense, an employee can create a bond with his followers and gather a group of persons interested in the same things and may even start to create a professional relationship with them. To the company this social network tool can be used to create a bond between itself and the customer, to inform about novelties, or even to sell.
Twitter can also be used in some creative ways:
-avoiding traffic jam, where someone who's following his city's feed can get follow updates of real time traffic by people stuck in traffic;
-it can also be used as way for doctors to remind their patients of appointments in the previous day or even 15 minutes before.

Hence there are different types of Twitter users and it can be used either to improve personal life or to improve a business performance.
